Special Needs and Inclusion

At the heart of our school ethos is the commitment to helping all children reach their fullest potential.  We do this by treating every child as an individual, each with their own needs.  Sometimes children may need additional support, resources or accommodations to help them in school.  Miss Algie is the Learning Support Coordinator and works closely with the classroom staff, parents and children to put these measures in place to make sure all the children have what they need.

There is a place for every child at Bangor Integrated Nursery School and we promote an Anti-Bias approach to the pre-school curriculum.  Everyone is seen, valued and celebrated.  We try our best to ensure all children and families can see themselves represented in our resources and feel a warm sense of belonging as part of our school community.

All the staff are very well trained in a wide range of strategies and intervention programmes to support children's development and learning.  We are a Makaton Friendly school and all permanent staff are trained to at least Makaton Level Two and we use Makaton daily to support communication for all children.

We are currently working with Autism NI to complete the Education Impact Award, ensuring our approaches, procedures, practices and policies are Autism Friendly.

If you have any questions about inclusion or how Bangor Integrated Nursery School meets the needs of all children or promotes inclusion and celebrates diversity please contact Miss Algie for more information.
